A former police station turned cinema, LHC is one of Utrecht’s few examples of Amsterdam School architecture. Designed in 1927 by city architect J.I. Planjer, it features expressive brickwork and sculptural forms. The building was granted national monument status in 2001. When the sun is out you can enjoy the terrace and people watching on the lively Ledig Erf, and inside you can choose from three different rooms to sit, all with pictures of movie icons or film posters.

You can take your drink — a glass of wine, a cup of tea — into the screening room (yes, in proper cups), and before every film someone from the staff gives a short intro: a few words on the director, the context, or what makes the film special. It makes the whole experience feel so personal. And with a Cineville pass, you can come back as often as you like and to every participating cinema in the country!
